A group of runners supporting Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity are once again gearing up to raise funds for their local NHS in Worcestershire as part of Team Worcestershire Acute by signing up to Worcester City Runs on the 15th September.
And this year a group of 39 nurses, doctors, parents of patients, and friends are taking part in support of the Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund – a specific fund which is part of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity. Dawn Forbes is the Lead Nurse for Children and Young People with cancer who are treated at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. Every year they organise a fundraising event such as a Charity Ball, Music Festival, or Casino Night, but this year Dawn wanted to recruit as many people as possible to take part in Worcester City Runs. It is the first time a group has got together to run on behalf of the fund, and they are hoping to begin training together soon. Their goal donation targets are £100 for those running the 10k and £150 for those running the half marathon.
Every penny raised helps a child who is going through cancer treatment to have access to toys, end-of-treatment celebration cakes, seasonal parties, including Easter egg hunts, summer picnics, Halloween parties and pantomime tickets. These experiences allow children and parents to make special memories together outside of hospital visits and treatment. “It helps us go above and beyond and provide things that the NHS would not be able to provide,” says Dawn.
